Common questions

My device doesn't appear in the Devices list.
MIDI-NOX lists every port macOS knows about. Open Audio MIDI Setup (in Applications → Utilities) and choose Window → Show MIDI Studio: if the device isn't there either, check its cable, power and driver. Devices appear in MIDI-NOX as soon as macOS sees them; no restart is needed.
I can see messages, but nothing reaches my synth.
Check that a route connects the input to the synth's output in the routing window (⌘1), that neither port is muted (an orange M), and that the route's transforms don't filter the messages out. A forced output channel must match the channel your synth listens on.
Some messages don't show in the stream.
Look for active filter chips under the stream, and untick Hide clock/sense to see MIDI Clock and Active Sensing. An input whose box is unticked in the Devices list is routed but not shown.
A note keeps sounding.
Press PANIC (⌘.). It sends All Notes Off and All Sound Off on every channel of every output.
A SysEx dump arrives incomplete, or the synth reports errors.
Raise the Gap in the SysEx Librarian, for example to 100–200 ms. Older instruments drop messages that arrive while they are still storing the previous one. Also check that the synth is set to receive SysEx, and on the right device ID if it has one.
Is routing still running when I close the window?
Yes. MIDI-NOX keeps routing with every window closed, like a hardware patch bay. Quit it with ⌘Q to stop. Reopen the main window from the Window menu.
Can I use my routing presets on another Mac?
Yes. Presets find ports by their CoreMIDI ID first and by name second, so the same interfaces on another Mac are found. Routes to a device that isn't connected wait for it and start working when it appears.
Where does MIDI-NOX keep my data, and how do I reset it?
In ~/Library/Application Support/MIDI-NOX. Settings → Clear All Saved Data erases the routing, presets, port names, preferences and the SysEx library.
Does MIDI-NOX collect any data about me?
No. It has no accounts, analytics, tracking or ads, and makes no network connections. See the Privacy Policy.
